Mr Leighton Kitson

Responsibilities

Leighton is responsible for promoting the research work and expertise of Durham’s academics to a regional, national and international audience and for answering media enquiries relating to the work and reputation of the University. He also has responsibility for the University’s corporate relations and the media office’s press release templates enabling our departments to promote their own activities and events to regional media. He is the media office contact for Archaeology, Durham Business School, Durham Law School, Engineering, Government and International Affairs, Mathematical Sciences, Physics and Theology and Religion.

Background and expertise

Leighton is a trained journalist with experience of private and public sector media relations. He was a media relations officer for Reg Vardy plc and Durham County Council with responsibility for commercial, corporate, media and internal communications. He has also worked for The Northern Echo and the Sunderland Echo where he was chief reporter covering a range of subjects including local government, education and sport.

Other passions

Outside of work he enjoys sport (especially football) and spending time with family and friends. He also volunteers at an after-school writing club for primary school children.
