Standing Orders
These Standing Orders should be read in conjunction with the General Committee section of Standing Orders available on the University website.
The Radiation Protection Committee is a sub-committee of the Health and Safety Committee which is currently under review.
Membership
A Chair appointed by the Health and Safety Committee
The University Radiation Protection Officer
The University Radiation Protection Adviser (who shall act as Secretary)
The Departmental Radiation Protection Supervisors for those Departments/Schools which use radio-isotopes or X-ray sources or lasers of Class 3B or 4
A member of staff nominated by Health and Safety Committee
A TU Nominee
One Student member appointed by Durham Students' Union
In attendance:
The Director of the Health and Safety Service
The University Occupational Health Adviser
Meetings
The Committee will meet at least twice per year.
Terms of Reference
- To advise Health and Safety Committee on all aspects of the use of ionising radiation, non-ionising radiation and lasers and, in particular, to oversee the University's responsibilities under the relevant legislation.
- To prepare and keep under review University Local Rules for ionising radiation, non-ionising radiation and laser safety.
- To advise on the duties required of the University Radiation Protection Adviser and Departmental Radiation Protection Supervisors.
- To report annually to Health and Safety Committee.
