Discipline Committee

Standing Orders
(Business/Operations Committee of Senate)

These Standing Orders should be read in conjunction with the General Committee section of Standing Orders available on the University's website.

(1) The membership of the Committee shall be:-

(a) A Chair or Deputy Chair who shall be appointed by Senate on the recommendation of Nominations Committee.

(b) Two members of staff drawn from a panel of fifteen, comprising five members of staff per Faculty.

(c) Two student representatives nominated by Durham Students' Union, who are to be either students serving on Durham Students' Union/University Committees or Sabbatical Officers who are members of Durham Students' Union.

(d) At least one member of the Committee shall be a man and one a woman.

(2) The quorum at any meeting of the Committee shall be three.

(3) The Chair and fifteen staff members shall be appointed by Senate on the recommendation of Nominations Committee.

(4) No member of the Committee should have been involved in the matter at an earlier stage. If necessary, the Vice-Chancellor and Warden shall appoint another Chair to serve for a particular case.

(5) A student whose case is to be considered by the Committee may ask that it be heard by the Chair and members of staff alone without the student members present.

(6) At least one member of the Committee shall be a man and one a woman.

(7) The Committee shall follow the procedures set out in Section IV of the General Regulations of the University.
