Ann Galbraith OBE, Chair of Council

Anne Galbraith was educated at Blyth Grammar School and King's College, Durham University.

She is currently Chair of the Valuation Tribunal Service (2003-) and a Non-Executive member of the NHS Business Service Authority (2006-).

She is formerly Chair of the NHS Prescription Pricing Authority (2001-2006), Vice-Chair of the North East Awards Committee of the Big Lottery (1999-2006), Chair of Tynedale CAB (1998-2004), member of the Council on Tribunals (1997-2003), Chair of Royal Victoria Infirmary and Associated Hospitals NHS Trust (1990-1997), member of the Northern Regional Health Authority (1987-1990), Lecturer in Law at the University of Northumbria (1965-1997), and Advisor to the Prime Minister on the Citizens Charter (1994-1997).

Anne has been a lay member of the University's Council since 2000, a Vice-Chairman since 2004 and was appointed Chairman in September 2006. She is Chairman of the Council Student Appeals Committee, the Remuneration Committee and the Nominations Committee and is an ex-officio member of Finance & General Purposes Committee. She has previously served on numerous Committees including as Chairman of the Audit Committee and Redundancy Committee, and as member of the University Ethics Advisory Committee. She was Chairman of the Council of St Hild and St Bede from 2000 to 2006, and chaired the Council Governance Task Group in 2005 and chaired the Vice-Chancellor's Appointment Panel in 2006.
