Mrs Kate Deeming, BA

Kate Deeming is Director of Governance Support and since 2006 has been the Head of the Governance Support Unit (GSU) within the Registrar's Division.

Since her appointment to Durham as Administrative Assistant to the Registrar in 1982, following her graduation from the University with a BA Honours degree in Geography (St Aidan's College), Kate has held a variety of posts. These include: Assistant Faculty Secretary (Arts and Divinity), Faculty Secretary (Social Sciences), Head of Courses and Quality Section, and Head of Graduate School Office. She was promoted to Senior Assistant Registrar in September 1999 when she took over responsibility for the support of Council, Senate, Audit Committee, Nominations Committee and Senate level student appeals and discipline cases. She became Head of the University Secretariat in 2002.

Kate acted as Secretary to the Academic Audit Visit to Dundee University in February 1992, was Branch Correspondent of the national University administrators' organisation (AHUA then CUA) from 1988-1991, and has been a tutor, SCR member and SCR Treasurer at St Aidan's College. She is currently a member of the SCR at St Mary's College and Josephine Butler College.

Kate is a HERA panel member.  She served as a member of the DSU Governance Working Group during 2007 and is a member of the Working Group reviewing the constitutional arrangements for JCRs during 2008/09.

She is in attendance at Council meetings and supports the Registrar in her role of Secretary to Council.
