Mr Archie Dallas

Archie Dallas is the President of Durham Students’ Union and serves ex officio on the University Council during his time in office.  He graduated in June 2011 with a degree in English Literature. This is his second year as an Officer in the Student Union after spending last year leading Durham University Charities Kommittee (DUCK). During last year DUCK donated £421,000 to charity and were named ‘Best Fundraising Team’ by the Institute of Fundraising.

In his three years as a student in Durham he has rowed and played rugby for Trevelyan College. He was also the Editor of Hex, the college magazine and has written for Palatinate. He was involved in drama throughout his time at Durham and was in 9 different productions.  He led a group of 19 Durham Students to Nepal in his second year with DUCK.  Finally, he was DUCK Challenges Officer in his final year, running 6 different fundraising challenges which raised over £40,000 for charity.

In his year as President he plans to:

Work to implement the new strategy for the Students’ Union

  • Increase engagement amongst postgraduate and international students
  • Increase student activity within the Union
  • Ensure that students are receiving a fair deal, and a good education, under increased tuition fees
  • Teach people the correct place of the apostrophe in ‘Students’ Union’
