Council is the governing and executive body of the University and its Trustee Board. Subject to the powers of Senate, it has ultimate responsibility for all the affairs of the University. The core responsibilities of Council include:
- setting the strategic direction of the University
- the custody, control and disposition of all its property and finance
- reviewing the work of the University
- advancing the interests of the University, maintaining its efficiency and encouraging the prosecution of learning and research in the University.
The Secretary of the Council, by Statute, is the Registrar and Secretary. The University Secretary (Interim) to Senate and Council is Peter Judge.
Council Effectiveness Review 2010
A quinquennial review of Council was conducted by Dr David Fletcher of David Fletcher Consulting Ltd who presented his findings to Council at its Awayday on 24 September 2010. The paper summarises the review process undertaken by Dr Fletcher and his conclusions.
