Catering
All residents are provided with three meals a day during term-time, which are taken in the Collingwood Dining Hall.

At lunchtime, you can eat healthy, with a salad-bar, baked potatoes, fruit and yoghurts, or alternatively indulge with a choice of hot food from around the world.
In the evenings our chefs create a three course meal with plenty of help-yourself options accompanied by pasta, rice and vegetables. Vegetarians are well catered for within this system.

The direction of food provided is a balance between a holistic approach to match the needs of the students and health/environmental issues of the day. We currently do not use fish from non sustainable stock. Also, to cut down on food miles our meats are predominately from the Durham area.

Salad Bar in Dining Hall
The College is accredited with the Heartbeat award and has cut sodium and trans-fats to a minimum. To support local farmers mutton has been trialled under a slow cook scheme to positive reviews. Recent changes include the provision of lighter, healthier options and serve-yourself salad items at lunchtimes and serve-yourself vegetables in the evenings.
Collingwood, and its Catering Team, pride themselves on the quality of their food! Our Community Head Chef is always looking for ways to further improve the quality of eating in Collingwood. To help with this it is important to get feedback on the quality of the food and a student catering committee helps to provide that, along with random surveying of a few eaters at every meal and an annual Student Experience Survey which goes to all students and covers a wide range of issues. The catering committee is chaired by the Vice-President of the JCR, this provides direction and feedback; so if there are any problems, they can be ironed out very quickly.
