Event Listing and Information

We try to have a variety of events each term. These range from guest lectures, lunches and jazz nights to comedy evenings, bowling, and wine tastings. Suggestions for events are always welcome (as are volunteers to organise them!).

Events should be booked no later than midday 4 working days in advance, and can be booked through the online booking form, or via SCR Secretary, Emma Brownlow - 0191 334 5172, emma.brownlow@durham.ac.uk

Please note that a maximum of 4 student guests can be accommodated per member per function - please also remember to book in student guests as students.

Event Information

Formal with JCR

This dinner is taken in company with the undergraduates. Often Black Tie events, but occassionally fancy dress themed!

High Table Dinner

High Table Dinner is a three course meal taken in Collingwood, with drinks in the SCR beforehand. The charge for High Table Dinner is inclusive of a glass of wine or fruit juice beforehand. Often followed by a talk from a member of the SCR, from the wider Univeristy community, or by Collingwood students.

Fine Dining Night

An evening of fine dining, and a chance to see what our Catering Team can really do! The cost includes a glass of sparkling wine or fruit juice beforehand, a 5-course meal, a selection of wines to accompany each course, and glass of port to finish off.

Buffet lunch

A chance to catch up with other SCR members and to pop into College and meet mentees. Lunch is a two course buffet, in the SCR. 

Dress Codes

Unless otherwise stated, all SCR events are smart/smart causal dress (shirt and trousers for men, tie optional. Skirts or trousers for ladies.)

After the end of term, you will be sent a bill for all your meals. If you are a College Mentor you will have a credit allowance set against the bill. The system is known as battels, and members are asked to pay their battels bills (cheques payable to Durham Univeristy) as soon as possible, and certainly within 28 days. After this the University Treasurer's Department may pursue payment from you directly

Arranging activities

As a member, you are able to use the SCR (the room) unless it has been booked for other College or commercial use. The room can be booked for meetings with mentees. Other public rooms can also, if free, be booked, and private functions, including meals, can be arranged, though these rooms are in considerable demand. It is sometimes possible for members to stay in College overnight, or longer. This possibility is greatest in Vacations, but may be available during Term. If you wish to make such arrangements please contact Reception, on 0191 334 5000 , who will be happy to help you.

Subscriptions

SCR annual subscriptions are currently £15 for single members and £25 for couples, and are due in the Michaelmas Term. Subscriptions are payable by cheque or standing order.
