Locking your machine

When you are not using your computer, you should turn your machine off: particularly if it is connected to a network that is 'always on' (e.g. broadband and the University's network). This not only keeps your machine secure but also saves energy.  If switching off your machine isn't a convenient option then you can lock it, which will leave your machine on but it can only be used by supplying the user name and password of the person who is logged in - this is particularly useful if you have to walk away for a few minutes.

Take a look at 'How to help yourself' to find out how to do this.
