Printing Problems

What to do if the output from the printer is faulty

If the output produced by the printer has a problem, such as being faded or blank pages being produced then you should first inform the Service Desk on 41515 so that we can arrange for someone to investigate. Do not throw away any faulty output, it is important that any faulty output you receive is kept and returned to the IT Service Desk. If you are unable to return faulty output then we will be unable to refund any credits. Refunds can only be issued upon the return of any faulty output.

What to do if there is a problem with the printer preventing any output from being produced

If you submit a job to the printer and discover that there is a problem with the printer resulting in no output being produced the first thing you should do is contact the IT Service Desk on 41515. We will need to know the error message displayed on the printer, the location of the printer and the printers ID (each printer should have a name e.g. lascol, aidans or monoa4). We will then be able to investigate the problem with the printer.

All jobs submitted to the printers are placed in a print queue. If there is a problem with the printer then your job will still remain in this print queue. Once any problems have been resolved then the queued jobs will be printed. It is therefore important that any jobs you have submitted to a faulty printer are removed before you walk away. You can do this by doing the following:

On NPCS 7

  1. Select Start > Devices and Printers
  2. Select the printer you submitted your job to
  3. Click the See what's printing icon
  4. If there are a number of queues pointing to the same printer then you may be asked to choose the correct one i.e. Selfservice or Selfservice-SingleSided
  5. In the window that appears you will see a list of documents in the queue, each document is named after the username of the submitter.
  6. Right click on each document that you submitted and select cancel
  7. Once your jobs have been cancelled you should logoff and go to a different computer room.

On NPCS XP

  1. Select Start > CIS Utilities > Printer Status
  2. Select your location Durham or Queens Campus
  3. Select the printer you submitted your job to
  4. In the window that appears you will see a list of documents in the queue, each document is named after the username of the submitter.
  5. Right click on each document that you submitted and select cancel
  6. Once your jobs have been cancelled you should logoff and go to a different computer room.
