The University complies with the above Act. Below is a statement of current practice.
- email passing through the University mail hub is scanned for viruses and spam mail.
- mis-addressed mail is examined by the Postmaster in order to direct mail to the correct address.
- network traffic may be monitored to ensure the effective performance of the network.
In addition, the ITS may monitor and record communications to prevent or detect crime, to investigate or detect unauthorised use and as an inherent part of effective system operation.
All the above activities are legitimate under the Act.
