NPCS in lecture theatres

CIS have NPCS machines in lecture theatres connected to the permananent projection facilities. This gives lecturers access to their J: drives as well as access to the Internet and all applications available on NPCS. The provision of Powerpoint presentations is now simpler as they can be stored and presented from the network drive. There are no local printing facilities, but you can access central printing facilities.

NPCS Windows 7 machines have been configured so VLC will be the default software for playing DVD. VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVD, Audio CD, VCD, and various streaming protocols.  More information on VLC here.

Upon loading a DVD into the player unit, VLC should automatically load and start to play the disk. Any subsequent manipulation of menu items; chapters etc can be done via the mouse.

Once the disk starts to play there are standard icons which enable the user to control the playing of the disk e.g. fast forward; pause; control sound level etc.
