Mobile Computing

A number of public access network points are available to enable registered laptop computers to connect to the University network on an ad-hoc basis.

Before you can connect to the service you must register your computer. The public access network is now protected by Campus Manager from Bradford Software. This is a network management system purchased by Durham University to increase the reliability of our network and decrease response time to network problems.

In order to reduce the amount of time it takes for you to get connected to the public access network please see the following page Preparing for Campus Manager.

The registration process will be initiated when you attempt to establish a connection via your web browser after connecting your computer to a CIS public access point.

Minimum Specification

  • A laptop computer with a correctly installed network card.
  • Microsoft Windows 2000/XP Operating System.
  • 366MHz Processor (or higher)
  • 128MB RAM (or higher)
