Laptop Computer Specification
Selecting a Laptop computer is very much a personal choice. The requirements for size of screen; weight and battery life all depend upon the individual as does how/where they intend to use the machine.
CIS does not recommend an optimum configuration that users should purchase. We would, however, recommend any laptop has at least 4GB RAM fitted, a 250Gb Hard Disk and Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7, (at present we do not recommend Windows 8) installed as the core operating system.
We also work with, and recommend, a number of suppliers who provide a range of laptops which will be suitable for the needs of most users.
Suppliers
CIS recommends the following suppliers for use within the University. All are part of the UCISA (Universities & Colleges Information Systems Association) scheme for recommended laptops.
All recommended machines are suitable for use on the CIS En Suite Online Service.
Because of the rapid changing nature of laptop hardware, care needs to be taken concerning compatibility issues between the laptop network card and our wireless service. For more details about the wireless service, click here.
Three different manufacturers supply the machines we recommend. For more details of machine specification and prices, please visit their web sites.
