Campus Card applications

Identification

Your Campus Card is your official identification card for Durham University and should be carried with you at all times.

Library services

The Campus Card will work in the Library on the same basis as the existing staff/student visitor Card. The barcode on the card allows you to borrow books as before in exactly the same way.

Building access

The Campus Cards, which incorporate a magnetic stripe, will control access to certain buildings and areas. Access control systems are installed in the Library and some IT facilities on the Science Site. Several other Departments and Colleges are also installing access control systems for perimeter doors. You may be required to swipe your card to gain access to many buildings in future.

Free transport between Durham and Stockton

The Campus Card has been accepted by Arriva as a means of proof of identification for a bus service providing transport between Durham and Stockton.

Future applications

There is much scope for the future development of applications to be used on the Campus Card. Some potential applications might be:

  • car parking
  • student meal entitlement - pilot project already introduced at Collingwood College and St Aidan's College
  • time and attendance
