Monday 12th December 2011 - The Choral Society
supported the Durham Inter-Collegiate Christian Union (DICCU) at its annual
service of carols in the Cathedral
Epiphany Term 2012
Saturday 10th March 2012, 7:30pm - 9:00pm - For the final concert of this year,
the society will be performing two works from Handel's
Coronation Anthems ,
'The King Shall Rejoice' and 'My Heart is Inditing', as well as the
'Great' Mass in C minor by Mozart. These will be
conducted by James Lancelot and accompanied by members of the Durham University Orchestral Society in the
magnificent setting of Durham Cathedral.

Monday 13th December 2010 - The Choral Society
supported the Durham Inter-Collegiate Christian Union (DICCU) at its annual
service of carols in the Cathedral
Epiphany Term 2011
Saturday 12th March 2011, 7:30pm - 9:00pm - For this year's main concert,
the Choral Society presented Stainer's Crucifixion and Schubert's Mass in A flat. It was conducted
by James Lancelot and accompanied
by members of the Durham University Orchestral Society in the beautiful Durham Cathedral.
It served as a fitting celebration of the arrival of the
Stainer archives to Durham.
Michaelmas Term 2009
Saturday 14th November 2009 - The Choral Society
performed a selection of sacred and secular songs by Schubert and Faure's
Requiem, accompanied by Oliver Brett and conducted by James Lancelot.
Monday 14th December 2009 - The Choral Society
supported the Durham Inter-Collegiate Christian Union (DICCU) at its annual
service of carols in the Cathedral
Epiphany Term 2010
Saturday 13th March 2010 - For this year's main concert,
the Choral Society presented Bach's masterful Mass in B Minor, conducted
by James Lancelot. Taking place in Durham Cathedral, accompanied
by members of the Durham University Orchestral Society, it was an
excellent concert.
Michaelmas Term 2008
Monday 10th November 2008 - The Choral Society will be
singing Evensong in Durham Cathedral
Friday 12th December 2008 - Along with several other
groups, the Choral Society performed in the Macmillan Charities
Concert, which took place in Durham Cathedral
Monday 15th December 2008 - The Choral Society again
supported the Durham Inter-Collegiate Christian Union (DICCU) at its annual
service of carols in the Cathedral
Epiphany Term 2009
Saturday 14th March 2009 - For this year's main concert,
the Choral Society will present St. Paul's Oratorio by Mendelssohn. This
will also take place in Durham Cathedral, alongside the DUOS Symphony
Orchestra.

Saturday 24th November 2007 - A selection of Bach Cantatas
was performed with the Palatinate Ensemble at St. Nicholas' Church, Market
Square, Durham

of carols in the Cathedral
Epiphany Term 2008
Saturday 8th March 2008 - For the main concert of the
season, Choral Society presented Haydn's ever popular oratorio, The Creation,
alongside the DUOS Symphony Orchestra in Durham Cathedral
Michaelmas Term 2006
Monday 20th November 2006 - Choral Society sung a traditional
service of choral evensong in Durham Cathedral to the appreciation of
clergy and congregation alike. The canticles were Stanford in C, and the
choir presented a preview of their performance of Elgar's 'The Apostles'
with the anthem, 'The Spirit of the Lord'.
Friday 8th December 2006 - DUCS was delighted to perform
again at this fundraising concert for Macmillan and St Cuthbert's Hospice.
A selection of shorter pieces were sung, the most memorable being Michael
Tippett's sequence of Negro Spirituals from 'Child of Our Time', and the
spoken word 'Geographical Fugue' by Ernest Toch.
Epiphany Term 2007
Saturday 10th March 2007 - Marking the 150th anniversary
of Elgar's birth, the Choral Society performed his rarely heard oratorio,
'The Apostles' with DUOS in Durham Cathedral
DUCS's major concert of the year was a performance of Haydn's 'Paukenmesse' and Brahms' 'A German Requiem'. The concert was enjoyed by a capacity audience at Durham Cathedral, and received a glowing review from durham21:
As a celebration for St. Cecilia's Day (The Patron Saint of Music) the Choral Society led the worship in a full Choral Evensong
on Monday 22nd November 2004 in the spiritual setting of Durham Cathedral. The repertoire included Howell's Hymn to St. Cecilia
as the anthem and the canticles were Mendelsohn's settings of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimmitis.
On Friday 3rd December 2004 the Choral Society supported Macmillan Cancer Relief in performing a Charity concert in Durham
Cathedral.
The Choral Society continued in its tradition of leading the singing at the Durham Inter-Collegiate Christian Union Carol Service on
Monday 13th December in the Cathedral. The carol Torches by John Joubert was performed and congregational carols were also sung.
Our main concert, on Saturday 5th March 2005, featured Haydn's Theresienmesse and Durufle's Requiem, performed with the
Durham University Orchestral Society.
On Saturday 22nd November 2003, we performed with the
Palatinate Ensemble, in Van Mildert College. The programme included Vivaldi's Gloria, along with concerti by Vivaldi and Corelli.
Shortly thereafter, DUCS featured in a MacMillan fundraising concert, on Friday 5th December 2003, in Elvet Methodist Church.
We continued our tradition of leading the carol singing at the Durham Intercollegiate Christian Union (DICCU) Student Carol Service,
Durham Cathedral, Monday 15th December 2003, 7.30 pm.
Saturday 15th March: Our main concert involved the performance of Bach's St Matthew Passion together with the Durham University
Orchestral Society. A capacity audience of over 850 people attended this very emotive Choral event.
In 2002/03 the Society took part in a wide variety of musical events: three Concerts, a Carol Service, and a Choral Evensong, all
within the atmospheric setting of Durham Cathedral.
Tuesday 19th November 2002: The Society had been asked to sing with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in Durham Cathedral. The music
performed was Stanford's Te Deum in Bb and William Walton's Henry V Suite.
Monday 25th November 2002: Sung Evensong in Durham Cathedral. The canticles were sung to the St. Paul's Service setting by Howells;
the anthem was Handel's The King shall rejoice.
Friday 6th December 2002: We performed at the Macmillan/Marie Curie charity concert to help raise funds for the work of these two charities,
Durham Cathedral.
Monday 9th December 2002: Leading the singing at Durham Intercollegiate Christian Union (DICCU) Student Carol Service. We continued our
ten-year tradition of singing at this service, which included the performance of a short festive anthem.
Saturday 15th March 2003: This was our main concert of the academic year - a performance of Verdi's Requiem with members of the University
Orchestral Society. The sell-out concert (capacity 700+) was a huge success, and brought a definitive end to the year for DUCS.
