Travel

All of the events relating to the Congregation Ceremony will be held on or around Palace Green (the area between the Castle and Cathedral), which is located on a hill in the centre of Durham within the city congestion charge zone:

There is no public parking at Palace Green and graduands and guests are advised to use the various car parks situated around Durham, including Durham's Park and Ride service, and the metered on-street parking which is available all over the city. The Durham Cathedral Bus provides transport within the city centre including Palace Green.

Disabled guests can be dropped off at Palace Green by car, taxi or the Cathedral bus. If the driver is disabled you must contact the Ceremonies Unit to request a disabled parking space.

Please be aware that vehicle access to Palace Green may be difficult on Congregation days. Anyone intending to drive to Palace Green is advised to allow extra time and to drive carefully through the centre. Pedestrians are also advised to be aware of traffic.

Graduands are advised to arrive at Palace Green at least 1 hour and 45 minutes prior to the ceremony. Guests will be directed into the Cathedral 45 minutes before the start of the ceremony.
