WelfareThere are a number of ways in which you can gain pastoral support if you have a problem during the course of your time in Durham, be it personal or academic.
The M.C.R.’s Welfare Officer, as well as any other member of the Executive Committee, are always willing to offer help and constructive advice. The M.C.R. Pastoral Tutor, Richard Lawrie, offers guidance in confidence on any matter, and offers invaluable support and guidance for personal and academic issues. He acts as a first point of contact for these matters. Additionally, both Eva Schumacher-Reid, who is based in college office, and Rev’d Miranda Threfall-Holmes, who is located just off the Black Staircase, are invaluable sources of advice on personal and academic matters. For contact details of these individuals please see the ‘Who’s Who’ section of the handbook. Outside of College, the University operates a confidential Counseling Service . If you simply need someone to talk to, Nightline is a confidential service run during term time. It operates a drop-in centre, located behind The Dun Cow pub on Old Elvet, and a telephone line, and also provides contraceptives free of charge, in addition to those which can be found in the M.C.R. itself |
