FormalsFormal Dinner, which is held every Tuesday and Thursday during term-time, is a long-standing College tradition. It is a three course meal held in the Great Hall to which academic dress is worn. Formals are attended by members of all three Common Rooms. By tradition, Junior members sit at Low Table and Senior members at High Table. The M.C.R., like the J.C.R., can attend Low Table on both Tuesdays and Thursdays. Unlike the J.C.R., on Tuesdays we are invited by the S.C.R. to join them on High Table. Formal commences at 7pm sharp, when High Table enters the Great Hall. When those at High Table enter, all those who are at Low Table stand. Following this, the College Grace is said by a member of Low Table, after which all members are seated for the meal, which is served by College staff. Everyone is required to remain seated throughout the meal (make sure you go to the loo first!), which normally finishes by 8pm, after which postgraduates retire to the S.C.R., the M.C.R or the Undercroft Bar, depending on the occasion. |
