The Exec

The M.C.R. is run by a seven-member Executive Committee. The positions of President and Treasurer are elected at the end of Easter term for the next year to ensure continuity in the running of the M.C.R., whilst the remaining five are elected at the beginning of the new academic year.

President

The president has overall responsibility for the M.C.R. It is their job to represent the views and opinions of Castle's postgraduate community. This involves communicating with the Junior and Senior Common Rooms, College Council and the University. Within the M.C.R., meetings are chaired by the president ensuring everything runs smoothly. Treasurer

The position of treasurer entails responsibility for sound administration of the M.C.R.’s finances. The Treasurer is responsible for supervising the M.C.R. bank account and acting as co-signatory alongside the President. Secretary

The Secretary is primarily responsible for communicating and liaising between the Executive Committee and M.C.R. members. This encompasses minute-keeping at M.C.R. meetings  and sending regular emails to M.C.R. members throughout the year to keep them up to date with what's going on. Steward

The Steward arranges for a supply of refreshments to be available in the Maurice E. Tucker Room and works with the Housekeeper to ensure that the Maurice E. Tucker Room remains clean, tidy and correctly maintained. Currently the Steward is Zhang "Bill" Zhuoli who may be contacted at zhuoli.zhang@durham.ac.uk.

Social Chair

The chief responsibility of the Social Chair is to create a varied social calendar that spans the course of the year. The Social Chair is also in charge of coordinating M.C.R. involvement in wider college events. The current Social Chair is Frances Teehan who may be contacted at frances.teehan@durham.ac.uk.

Welfare Officer

The Welfare Officer ensures the well-being of the members of the M.C.R. This position requires meeting with M.C.R. members to confidentially discuss and help with any issues (personal, academic, etc.) that they may have, and ensuring that the welfare needs of all members are met. In addition they are involved in the promotion of University and College welfare campaigns. Our current Welfare Officer is Lindsay Turner who may be contacted at lindsay.turner@durham.ac.uk.

D.S.U. Representative

It is the D.S.U. Representative’s job to act on behalf of Castle M.C.R. at Durham Students’ Union meetings. They act as a ‘go-between’, liaising with the M.C.R. Exec and D.S.U. Reps from other Colleges and the D.S.U. President. The D.S.U. Rep is the M.C.R.’s voice on the concerns of postgraduate students at a wider University level, making sure the wishes of M.C.R. members are known to the D.S.U. and the University.
