The Dun Cow The Dun Cow is a gem: fiendly and about 4000 years old. It's always good for a quiet pint.

The Half Moon Inn The Half Moon Inn stocks a huge range of ales and ciders and is close to Elvet Riverside. A beer garden behind the establishment looks out over the river and is a great place to relax in summer.

The Swan & Three Cygnets The Swan & Three Cygnets is a popular pub all year round with lots of outdoor space for those long, hot summer days. Commonly referred to as the Swan & Three by students, the pub is near to Elvet Riverside and offers a good pint.

The New Inn The New Inn is a regular haunt for those working at the Science Site. You can no longer get discounts; and the price can be pretty steep for some drinks although most of what it has to offer can be described as cheap and cheerful. It's a sound watering hole but probably won’t win any Michelin stars anytime soon.

The Victoria The Victoria has a fantastic selection of real ales to drink whilst snuggled inside looking at the Victorian decor. Really worth a visit.

Market Tavern The Market Tavern is another fine establishment to drink at with a real roaring fire, an ever changing selection of guest ales to choose from and a fantastic atmosphere.

The Shakespeare Tavern The Shakespeare is the city's oldest pub and is located on Saddler Street. Don't be put off when you enter if there are no seats spare, there is a little more room round the back of the place.

Ye Old Elm Tree The Ye Old Elm Tree holds one of the hardest quizzes in Durham and many a 'folk night'. An evening spent here is an evening not wasted in a cosy and relaxing atmosphere.

The Woodman The Woodman serves a good range of drinks, offers pool and has a regular pub quiz every Sunday evening. Well worth a visit.
