Food and Drink

Durham has a huge variety of places to grab a bite to eat, go shopping, enjoy a cocktail or whatever takes your fancy. Here we've provided a list (by no means comprehensive) of the different places around and about Durham that may take your fancy.

Cafés

Perfect for a snack, cup of coffee, to meet friends, relax etc. Durham doesn't disappoint with its range of cafés dotted around the place. See if you can find them all!

Bars

Bars, like cafés, are hidden all over the place from The Cellar Door to Ebony, Durham's one and only champagne bar. Fabio's has to be on of the M.C.R.'s favourite hangouts later in the evenings.

Pubs

One thing Durham is not lacking is pubs. Whether you love real ales, pub quizes, a chilled cider or the atmosphere, there is something for you. Many of the departments throughout Durham have a favourite pub to stop by on an evening to catch up with collegues.

Clubs

Clubs are thin on the ground in these parts although Newcastle is just a train ride away, just be aware of the last train returning to Durham if you're not planning on staying out long. What Durham does have in the way of clubs cannot be matched by any other city on the planet...... and one word sums it up, Klute. Another of the M.C.R.'s favourite hotspots for socialising and boogying on down.

Dining Out

With a huge array of takaways and restaurants available it's hard to miss the dining out experience. There is something to suit everyone here, from the cheap and cheerful to the exquisite and expensive and we've been kind enough to provide you with a list of most of them. Bon Appetit!

Supermarkets

Durham has a range of supermarkets from the big English stores such as Tesco's through to the German Aldi and the Asian Golden Pearl. You'll be able to improve your culinary skills making, and more importantly tasting, cuisine from all over the world.
