Staff Profiles

The Master

Professor Maurice Tucker was formerly the master of Univesity College between 1998 and 2011. Currently, the position is temporarily filled by Eva Schumacher-Reid, the Senior Tutor. The new master is expected to make an appearance come the new year.

Senior Tutor

Mrs. Eva Schumacher-Reid has overall responsibility for the academic and personal welfare of College members. She also deals with more complicated or serious academic and personal problems. She is also a Teaching Fellow in German. Contact at eva.schumacher-reid @dur.ac.uk.

M.C.R. Pastoral Tutors

Richard Lawrie and Chris Dent offer confidential guidance and invaluable support for both personal and academic issues. They can be contacted via email (Richard: r.m.lawrie@durham.ac.uk, Chris: chris.dent@durham.ac.uk).

Bursar

Michelle Crawford manages the day-to-day running of University College. She works in conjunction with the other members of College Office, which is students’ initial contact point for all matters. Contact at t.m.crawford@durham.ac.uk.

Student Support Secretary

Mrs. Lynne Carrick is the secretary with whom members of College have most contact, and is generally a useful person to consult with any questions relating to college life. Appointments with the Master and Senior Tutor are also made via Mrs. Carrick. Contact at p.l.carrick@dur.ac.uk.

Operations Manager

Donna Pudwell oversees many of the daily operations in college, including housekeeping and organising work to be completed on the castle. Donna is also the final point of contact for issues involving accommodation, should all other options have been exhausted. Contact at donna.pudwell@durham.ac.uk.

The Chaplain

The Rev'd Dr Miranda Threlfall-Holmes is responsible for the non-denominational spiritual welfare of the College and provides a friendly ear for any problem. Her office is located on the second floor of the Black Stairs. Contact at miranda.threlfall-holmes@durham.ac.uk.

College Librarian

Dr. Richard Higgins maintains the Lowe Library’s collection of 10,000 books, and purchases new items for the Library at students’ request. Contact at r.i.higgins@durham.ac.uk.

The Porters

The Porters’ Lodge is located in the Gatehouse, staffed 24 hours a day throughout the year by a Porter. The gentlemen at the Lodge are a mine of useful information. The phone number of the lodge, which connects to the Porter’s mobile if he is out, is: 01913 343800
