Work experience options
Work experience is difficult to define in that it can encompass anything from structured placements with a strong project focus to spending 30 minutes discussing the pro's and con's of someone's professional life. The common element is that you are developing your understanding of career opportunities. Structured, project based work experience in the form of an internship is fantastic in that you develop transferable and commercial skills in addition to gaining career insight. Internships are competitive but do represent excellent opportunities for students. They are not, however, the only option available to students; this is particularly important as not all career sectors, and employers, offer relevant structured internship opportunities.
