Be enterprising

An enterprising individual demonstrates a set of personal skills and qualities that can be used in any context (not just in setting up a business), and these skills are increasingly being highlighted by employers as essential in their top class graduate recruits.

Being enterprising is all about developing skills which help you to demonstrate how you can be creative, innovative and flexible in a wide range of situations - this could be in academia, working for someone else, participating in extra-curricular activities or by taking part in enterprise events and activities whilst at University.

Examples of enterprising skills include:

  • Initiative
  • Adaptability
  • Creativity
  • Leadership
  • Flexibility
  • Networking
  • Being innovative
  • Problem solving
  • Opportunity identification
  • Strategic thinking
  • Potential employers want to see that you have this skill set, and you need to be able to demonstrate and articulate the fact that you are an enterprising individual to them in job applications and interviews. Find out how employers look for this skill set, and how you can increase your employability by participating in our enterprise skills workshops.

Get involved and create your own future

Taking part in enterprising events activities will not only help you to foster and build your enterprising skills, it will also give you the opportunity to explore your own entrepreneurial potential. You could even get support to help you set up and run your own business whilst still at University.

Check out the DUenterprise blog to find out what is going on and how you can get involved.
