Careers, Employability and Enterprise Centre

STAR Programme

An interactive series of workshops designed to offer our students the chance to reflect on, develop and promote their skills.

The majority of workshops are delivered by employers, giving you the chance to work with our students to develop their understanding of the graduate workplace and the skills they will need for future success.

How is the programme organised?

Workshops are organised into two broad themes, each with a basic content agreed in advance to ensure consistency across the programme:

  • Personal skills (e.g. teamwork, communication)
    These sessions should include:
      > An overview of the skill.
      > A practical activity giving students the chance to experience the skill first hand.
      > Tips on how to "sell" this skill to an employer - good examples to use etc.
  • Career management skills (e.g. interview techniques, applications)
    These sessions should include:
      > Hints and tips for best practice.
      > An interactive element allowing students to enhance their skills and receive employer feedback in a relaxed environment.

Workshops (typically lasting between 90 minutes and 2 hours) run throughout the academic year on Wednesday afternoons and Tuesday and Thursday evenings and may be attended by students from any year group.

Interested in getting involved?

There is no cost to participate in the workshop programme; student bookings and venue hire will be arranged on your behalf. However, any additional costs, such as production of materials, or catering costs will be the responsibility of the employer.

If you are interested in working with us to deliver this programme please email: star.programme@durham.ac.uk to discuss.
