Conferences

The Centre for 17th-Century Studies organizes major biennial International Conferences, held in Durham Castle.  The programme consists of about 50 papers, and the total attendance is always well in excess of a hundred scholars, from a very wide range of disciplines, the majority of whom come to Durham from beyond the United Kingdom.  These conferences have been an established feature of the international scholarly scene since 1985.  Recent conferences have been devoted to the following themes:

Thirteenth International Conference, July 2010 'Ideals and Values inthe 17th Century'

Twelfth International Conference, July 2009  'Friends and Enemies: Collaboration & Conflict in the Seventeenth Century'

Tenth International Conference, July 2003   ‘The Individual & the Group'

Ninth International Conference, July 2001   ‘Britain in Europe and the Wider World'

Eighth International Conference, July 1999  ‘Orthodoxies & Heterodoxy'
