A Week in the Life of a Butler Fresher

Hello everyone!

I hope you're all enjoying the last few weeks at home before you all arrive! While you've still got the chance, make sure you learn how to cook a couple of dishes and stock up on fancy dress.

Please find new timetables of a week in the life of Butler Freshers - they'll give you a taste of what you can expect your life at Durham to be like.

If you have any questions at all (what's the Mound for, what are the kitchens like, how do I register for modules), please email me at s.a.minsaas@durham.ac.uk or find the Freshers' Facebook page :)

Butler love,

Siri xxx

Frep Advice

Hellooo!

We're now officially into September, which means that you'll all be arriving soon! If the freshers' Facebook page is any indication, you've got lots of questions about Butler, accommodation, university life, Durham and everything in between, so your Freps have put together a list of their advice and experiences. Having been through their first year at uni already, they're experts on matters like how much fancy dress to bring (lots!), how to get half-price textbooks and other insiders' tips to Butler! Hopefully this helps you with everything you're wondering about!

Head Frep's Blog #1

Hello freshers!

I’m guessing that the reason you’re reading this is that you now have a confirmed offer to study at Durham! Congratulations! Now you definitely deserve to enjoy the last few weeks of summer before uni starts.

Simon and I are your Head Freshers’ Representatives, meaning that we’re spending the summer planning Freshers’ Week and all sorts of amazing events and fresher fun to ensure that you feel completely welcomed and settled into Butler and get the best possible start to student life. We can’t wait for you all to arrive – just 46 more days!

At the moment you’re probably still reeling from your results, but also feeling a bit nervous and hopefully excited too. Just rememberthat it is everyone else’s first time at uni too, and that we’re here to help you with anything and everything.

If you haven’t already, please join the “Josephine ButlerCollege Freshers 2012” group at http://www.facebook.com/groups/328119683949097/ It’s a group for you to ask any and all questions about Durham and Butler, meet your fellow freshers and keep updated on information.

Freshers’ information packs will be sent out to you by post in a few days, but if you can’t wait that long I’ve uploaded a copy of the Freshers’ Handbook 2012 to keep you excited :)

Please feel free to contact me at s.a.minsaas@durham.ac.uk at any time if you have any questions or want to know more about Butler, freshers’ week or Durham in general :)

See you soon!

Survey of products

Hi everyone,

I know you're all sick of surveys but we would really appreciate it if you filled in this survey about the coffee shop and kitchen. It really doesn't take long (2 mins maximum) and if you do you are in with a chance of winning a free meal at Butler Bar! Please fill it in and e-mail it to t.c.fraine@durham.ac.uk or nicola.crust@durham.ac.uk. We will also come round at tutor night harassing you to complete it so please do take the time to take part and give us valuable feedback. It's after exams so there is no excuse! :P

Meet the Angels

On Saturday 2nd June, a selection of Butler alumni will be returning to Butler to chat to current students about careers and life beyond Butler. This is a great opportunity to talk to a variety of Butler alumni who have been in your position, whether you know what you want to do with your life or haven't a clue!
The event will take place in the Seminar Room and Howlands Hall, beginning at 6:30pm. There will be a free buffet and drinks. The dress code is smart casual.

Question Time with the Vice-Chancellor

19:30 TUESDAY 8th MAY in the Fonteyn Ballroom of the DSU (the big room at the bottom of the DSU)

If you have questions about your life as a student at Durham, you should head on down to the DSU for this event. The Vice-Chancellor will be joined by a panel including Professor Liz Burd, the DSU President and two guests. The event is free and open to anyone. Just head down to the DSU for 7:30pm on the 8th May and have your say.

(If you don't have anything to ask, there should be some cracking questions being fired at the panel so come on down anyway!)

Any questions about this event or the DSU in general, get in touch: jonathan.harrison@durham.ac.uk
