The Collegiate Programme

The Collegiate Programme is a schedule of events organised by Josephine Butler College.  The programme is designed to provide opportunities for all members of the college to develop their personal skills and academic interests.

Details on the programme will be posted here nearer the time of your arrival, but we will hold English conversation evenings, sessions to help you adjust to University in the UK, careers advice etc

Formal Dining

You will be attending a Formal Welcome dinner during your first week of being at Durham.  Formals are part of what sets Durham apart from most other Universities.  They are a two course meal served to your table, with wine and soft drinks provided.  As Butler is a self-catered college formals are especially important as they provide an excellent opportunity to get everyone together.

Social Activities

There is a team of current Postgraduate Students and Jo Dedhar - our College Pre-sessional Coordinator who organise events, sports, clubs and societies to help you get the most from your stay.  They also assist with arrangements for the Welcome Dinner and the weekly International Café and will arrange visits to other Colleges.

The College also organises Saturday visits to local places of interest such as York, Edinburgh, Leeds, Whitby and The Lake District and you will be given details of these when you arrive.
