(27 April 2009)

County Durham based contractor Esh Group has boosted the north east's economy by more than £350m thanks to its 'Buy Local' strategy when it comes to trade contractors and suppliers.
Durham Business School (DBS) has calculated that Esh benefited the local economy by around £357m in 2007. DBS has just completed Phase 1 of a two year study into the economic value of Esh’s policy to support regional suppliers and contractors. The policy is central to Esh and its subsidiary companies including Lumsden & Carroll Construction, Dunelm Property Services, Wilkinson Facilities Services, Dunelm Homes, Deerness Fencing and Sones Landscaping. Professor Rob Dixon, Dean & Professor of Management Accounting at DBS said: "The findings of this study are very important. They clearly show that Esh Group, through employing a conscientious commercial strategy has delivered significant financial benefit to the economic territory in which it is based."
