Launch of top women's award - 2007
(8 May 2007)
The launch of the 2007 North East Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, hosted by Women Into the Network (WIN), will be officially launched by Britain’s most successful and best-known Paralympic athlete, Dame Tanni Grey Thompson DBE.
Tanni, who has received numerous accolades and awards throughout her career will be speaking at the launch to be held on Thursday 31st May at Hardwick Hall in Sedgefield. Women and men from across the region are invited to come and listen to last year’s winners and hear which categories are open for nomination in what has now become one of the region’s most highly rated business award competitions. Now in their eighth year, the Awards recognise and reward the tremendous contribution being made to the North East economy by women and are specifically targeted at women who have set up or taken over an independently owned business in the North East. There are nine award categories on offer, including ‘The Susan Dobson Award for Entrepreneurship’, sponsored by the Susan Dobson Memorial Fund, Young Woman Entrepreneur, sponsored by South Tyneside Council and a brand new category which will be revealed at the launch event. Events and Communications Manager, Lisa Vickers, said, “The launch is the perfect platform for us to raise awareness of these important awards. It is a great opportunity for people to find out more about the process, be inspired by past winners and network with those across the business spectrum. We’re excited to be moving to the iconic Sage Gateshead to host the ceremony in November with capacity for over 700 people and purpose-built facilities. It proves to be the best North East Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Awards yet!” Sponsor of the launch event, Alastair MacColl, CEO of Business Link North East said, “We are delighted to sponsor this year’s launch of the North East Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. The Awards are an excellent opportunity to celebrate the achievements, and showcase the excellent talent of women in the North East. Each year Business Link helps thousands of women to identify and acquire the help they need to get started, grow, diversify, improve their competitiveness and ultimately reach their full potential. In the North East, we are working to promote, encourage and support women’s enterprise alongside Women Into the Network.” The launch runs from 12.45 – 3.00pm and is open to anyone who wants to know more about the awards.
