Funding was given to two projects in the recent BSI Dragons' Den event.
(30 March 2012)
Funding was awarded to the research team Lore Thaler (Psychology) and Ian Jermyn (Mathematical Sciences). Their proposal: Teaching and Evaluating the Use of Palatal Clicks for Human Echolocation, aims to develop technology to aid individuals develop these specialised clicks and could lead to a better understanding of human echolocation.
A collaboration between Chemistry's Ahmed Eissa and Physics' Penny Lawton was also awarded funding towards their project which asks the question Can we mimic receptor mediated endocytosis in a purely synthetic system? This project sets out to measure the forces involved when a synthetic polymersome engulfs a specialised nanoparticle.
