Music & Art at the Botanic Garden
New Storylines for Living with Environmental Change.
This is a unique opportunity to see music and art working together with Durham's research.
Composer Trevor Wishart and artist Ingrid Sylvestre will be showcasing their work, created as part of joint projects with the University
Composer Trevor Wishart, the maverick of digital opera, has created a music installation from his Encounters project developed from recordings he made in homes, schools, and meeting-places in the Northeast. The installation presents a number of speech-portraits of local people accompanied by imaginary musical instruments derived directly from the voices we hear.
Ingrid Sylvestre has been working as the Associate Artist for Durham University's Institute of Advanced Study series of events 'New storylines for living with environmental change'. Ingrid has made extensive visual records of the events during these events, many of which she has worked up into larger artworks. The exhibition shows a selection of her works from this series, ranging from small drawings made during meetings, to large interpretations on canvas. A booklet of the images, with text, will also be available for purchase at the exhibition.
The exhibition is held in the Visitor Centre Coffee Shop. Admission is free to view the exhibition. Normal admission charges apply for entry into the Botanic Garden.
