The Natural Sciences degree

A substantial number of students applying to Durham choose to study a wider range of subjects than that provided by the conventional single honours degree programme. Students wishing to adopt a broad-based approach to Biology are encouraged to register for Honours in Natural Sciences - a flexible degree programme in which students normally study at least two subjects for three years. The degree programme also contains several three year B.Sc. Joint Honours degrees. The following subjects are available with Biology in Joint Honours degrees: Anthropology, Archaeology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Geography, Mathematics and Psychology. If you want to study more than two subjects and possibly include some other subjects such as Business, Computer Science, Economics, Philosophy and Physics, then this may be possible, subject to timetable constraints, within a more broadly based Natural Sciences degree. There is also a four year M.Sci. Joint Honours degree in Biology and Chemistry. Within Biology, Natural Sciences students usually specialise in either Cell Biology or Whole Organism Biology.
