Human Physiology

This module will follow on from the level 1 module Physiology, continuing to study the functions of higher animals, with an emphasis towards how the human body works.  A central precept of human physiology is homeostasis, the maintenance of a relatively stable internal environment.  Failure to maintain homeostasis disrupts normal function that may lead to disease states or pathophysiology.  We will use pathophysiology to help understand the mechanisms the body uses to remain healthy.  We will also see what pharmacological interventions are available to restore normal body function. This module will provide useful background for the level 3 modules Biology of Disease, and Ageing and Age-Related Diseases.
