Basil Bunting Poetry Centre

Research Report 1998


The Centre orgasnised a Seminar in March on Bunting's associations with other poets, with papers by Kathleen Fraser (State University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Bill Griffiths (King's College London) and Will Wooten (Durham University), and hosted poetry readings by Kathleen Fraser and (in conjunction with the Morden Tower in Newcastle) Rachel Blau du Plessis. From our 1997 publications, Basil Bunting: A Northern Life by Caddel and Flowers received an Alan Ball Local History Award from the Library Association. In April Dr. Collecott gave a paper on H.D. and Sappho to an International Symposium at the University of Macerata, Italy, and in May she gave a guest lecture on Women Writers and the Sublime at the University of Genoa. In October Richard Caddel was invited as Special Guest to the International Writers' Conference in Druskininkai, Lithuania.
