Basil Bunting Poetry Centre

Research Report 1996

The Centre pursued its work with innovative and performance poetries in "A Celebration Of New Women's Writing" (March 1st) with performances by Nicole Brossard and Daphne Marlatt (Canada) and Geraldine Monk and Maggie O'Sullivan (UK). Other activities during the year relate to the regional celebration of Visual Arts Year: an inscription of a Bunting text was commissioned from the David Kindersley workshop, and unveiled in the University's Botanic Gardens in June by the Chancellor. Another of the Centre's commissions, a work by Ian Hamilton Finlay, was also installed in the Botanic Gardens. The Centre also co-ordinated a series of Public Lectures for Visual Arts Year, including lectures on Honorary Graduands R.B. Kitaj and Sir Anthony Caro, and on the Kindersley Workshop and Ian Hamilton Finlay.

Dr Collecott presented research papers to the Contexts of Modernism Conference, University of London, in May, and at the University of Teesside in November.
