Comet Hale-Bopp
04/12/2007: 'The Search for Intelligent Life' · Sir Arnold Wolfendale (Durham)
Former Astronomer Royal Prof. Sir Arnold Wolfendale will be providing us with a talk on one of the great questions of our age, "Are we alone?". The lecture will examine historical attitudes to the question and then the science behind contempary searches. The views of the audience will be sought and the speaker will give his own conclusions.

20/11/2007: '*Pan-STARRS* -- the Panoramic Survey Telescope & Rapid Response System' · Prof. Shaun Cole (Durham)
Shaun Cole will be introducing us to the Panoramic Survey Telescope & Rapid Response System that is about to become operational in Hawaii. The immediate goal of Pan-STARRS is to discover and characterize Earth-approaching objects, both asteroids & comets, that might pose a danger to our planet.
