Professor Ali Rahnema is one of the leading academics interested in the late modern and contemporary history of Iran, with an emphasis on the interaction between politics, economics and religion. In his comparative interdisciplinary research he has focused on modern Islamic thinkers and their political, social and economic rendition of Islam as well as the movements resulting from them.  His most recent book is Superstition as Ideology in Iranian Politics: From   Majlesi to Ahmadinejad (Cambridge University Press, 2011).
