Financial Support for Postgraduate Students starting in academic year 2012-13
A) PhD Scholarship, funded by the AHRC is available to start in October 2012
Early urbanism in prehistoric Europe?: the case of the Tripillia mega-sites
Title: Remote sensing in the Tripillye group, Ukraine
Aim of Doctoral Research: The proposed PhD thesis will assess the potential for the recovery of plan information for Tripillye mega-sites and other, smaller Tripillye sites from satellite imagery, as well as supplying regional settlement context, land use potential and possible palaeo-environmental change in the study region (25 x 25 km) around the Nebelivka mega-site.
This PhD scholarship is open to Home and EU applicants only. Note that EU applicants are only eligible for a fees-only award no maintenance grant. Home applicants are eligible for both fees and maintenance grant. A good first class honours degree (or equivalent) is essential and an excellent Masters degree, (distinction preferred).
Joint supervision by Professor T. J. Wilkinson and Dr. John Chapman; working with Ukrainian colleagues (Dr. Mikhail Videiko, Kyiv) and the Project’s Post-Doctoral Research Assistant.

B) Binchester Field-School Bursaries
As an introduction to Durham (both the Department and the region), new international candidates for taught or research degrees will be eligible to apply for funding to support participation in the Binchester field school during Summer 2012 (these will cover participation fees but not accommodation). Three such bursaries will be offered. For further details contact Dr David Petts ( d.a.petts@durham.ac.uk ).
You should make a formal application to study in the Department through the University's on-line system http://www.dur.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/apply/. In the box on the application form that asks about funding you should note that you would like to be considered for the relevant scholarships (e.g. AHRC, DDS etc)
C) MA/MSc by Research bursaries
A small number of Departmental bursaries are available to support high-calibre students wishing to study for an MA/MSc by Research.
Should you wish to be considered you must submit an MA by Research (F4A007) or MSC by Research (F4A109) application through the Durham University on-line application system by the end of July 2012 stating that you wish to be considered. If you have already made an application, then please contact Mrs Helen Wood, PG Secretary at helen.wood@durham.ac.uk to state your interest. Decisions will be made in August.
