Department of Archaeology: Archaeological Services

Community projects, research & training

We provide community archaeology projects, in conjunction with our project partners, creating opportunities for people to get involved and receive training in archaeology in practice. Our projects aim to connect local communities with professional archaeologists, to address the main research aims in the region.

Archaeological Services provides professional archaeological training in our summer Field Schools in which undergraduate and graduate students take part.

Research and Planning

In order to meet the requirements of the planning policy framework, research objectives are built in to projects implemented by developers. Research objectives are primarily drawn from thematic research frameworks and the Regional Research Frameworks, the creation of which was implemented and supported by English Heritage in support of their research strategy for this purpose. Archaeological Services also conducts a wide variety of other research projects on behalf of the University and various external funders.
