Below are the contact details for the committee. For specific enquiries, please get in touch with the relevant person:
Club Captain: Victoria Willars (victoria.willars@durham.ac.uk)
There’s very little to say about Vic that she hasn’t already said herself. She runs exec meetings, sorts out how we get to races, ground-works with other clubs’ execs and somehow finds time to keep the rest of this lot in check...
Vice Captain/Boatman: Simon Jones (simon.jones@durham.ac.uk)
For the second year running, SACBC’s boats are in the capable hands of the man from Henley. Simon was rowing when some members of the exec were still on mother’s milk, and therefore knows everything worth knowing about equipment. Settle down with him in the bar for a pleasant chat about riggers and fins, you’ll find it deeply rewarding.
Treasurer: Steve Coulson (stephen.coulson@durham.ac.uk)
Promoted up from the lowly ranks of Nov Dev last year, this time around Steve’s playing for the big bucks. Will be joining Deutsche Bank at the end of university, so the boat clubs’ tax return should be child’s play. Expect threatening emails if you don’t pay your bills.
Men’s captain: Sam Stephenson(samuel.stephenson@durham.ac.uk)
Although he was initially shocked by the difference between SACBC and King’s school BC, where Sam learnt to row, we quickly managed to get him up to the high standards expected of our squad, and Sam has been a great success ever since. He brings experience and enthusiasm to a position which needs experience and enthusiasm. This is good.
Women’s captain: Charlotte Gowers (a.c.v.gowers@durham.ac.uk)
Charlotte brings a calmness and serenity to all matters rowing that disguises her competitive nature. An expert in Yoga, and super hard working with her degree. Think of the nerdy yet attractive girl in American films who gets the guy in the end.
Secretary: Natalie Mycroft (natalie.mycroft@durham.ac.uk)
Takes minutes. Does race entries. She’s a secretary, what else were you expecting? Natalie’s a lovely girl, but it’s not the hardest job in the world. Makes good tea.
Novice Development Men: Simon Warner (simon.warner@durham.ac.uk)
Easily recognisable by his famous salmon-pink trousers, Simon’s greatest claim to fame is sailing the globe single handed. Ellen MacArthur may have got all the press, but Simon was actually slightly faster. Fact. With this kind of bravery and skill, teaching novice crews should provide few difficulties for him.
Novice Development Women: Carla Glass (Carla.glass@durham.ac.uk)
Once outdrank an entire English rugby team. Just because she could. Whilst she may be held back by her slight deficiency in spoken English, this fiery Irish Lady is sure to produce crews with great spirit and fight.
Social Sec: Richard James (r.w.james@durham.ac.uk)
A wise man once said “If you can run Aidan’s bar, the rest of life is easy”. The origin of this statement is lost in the mists of time, but Dickie offers living proof. By the end of his tenure, SACBC should expect to have perfected their dance moves, overeaten at Dynasty and have one very sore head... Or have Pizza King on speed dial.
