Course information
Course codeGD143
Course titlePresentation Practice Session
Description

In this workshop, participants will give a mini-presentation to the group. This will be video-recorded, providing the speaker and group with an opportunity to discuss the presentation and give constructive feedback. All this will be done in the least threatening but most supportive way possible.

Preparation: To participate in this workshop you must prepare a 6 minute presentation. It is up to you whether you use PowerPoint or other visual aids. Your presentation can be on anything. Previous presentations have included everything from Sunderland Football Club to How to Decorate a Christmas Tree. If you decide to present an aspect of your research, remember to pitch it at the level of a non-specialist audience as other participants are unlikely to have subject-specific knowledge of your area of research.

By the end of this session participants will have:

  • gained an experience of giving a presentation to a non-specialist audience
  • had an opportunity to review their presentation technique
  • identified areas in which, and ways that they can develop future presentations

If you have little or no experience of giving presentations, it is recommended that you attend the Introduction to Giving Presentations: Planning and Preparing and Introduction to Giving Presentations: Delivering first.
