Senate

Senate is the supreme governing body in all academic matters, responsible for academic quality and standards and for providing assurance to Council on these matters, The Vice-Chancellor and Warden chairs Senate and its membership comprises all Heads of Department, all Heads of House, six co-opted members (normally senior academics with other responsibilities such as Institute Directors) and seventeen members elected from amongst the general academic staff by the Academic Electoral Assembly (AEA).

Senate has two major committees which conduct detailed business on its behalf: the Education Committee (chaired by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), Tom Ward) and the Research Committee (chaired by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), Tom McLeish).
