The show details the story of Mary Lennox, an 11-year-old English girl living in India who, after her parents pass away, is sent back to Yorkshire to live with her Uncle. She finds his home at first forbidding and unfriendly, but through her friendship with her Uncles son, Colin, and her discovery of a mysterious locked garden in the grounds of the house she begins to come to terms with her life and sees the people around her in a new light.
