Sweeney Todd & the String of Pearls by Dave Spencer

After the SELL-OUT success of Another Soup's original March 2013 run, Sweeney Todd & the String of Pearls​ will be returning to Durham's Indoor Market from 5-8th June 2013. With just as much gore, pastry, and Victorian debauchery, Another Soup promises you yet more nights wandering the underworld of 19th century London.

Late at night, when all the traders have gone home to their warm beds, the corridors and twisting alleys of Durham Market play host to a enticing collection of 19th century spectres. They form out of the darkness and continue about their daily lives, set against a disturbing nighttime backdrop of modern paraphernalia and bric-a-brac. Let them welcome you in from Fowler's Yard and hold your breath as you ascend the stairs leading up to Fleet Street. Come listen, watch, and walk with them as they attempt to live their long-dead lives, as if almost 200 years had not already passed them by.

Adapted by director Dave Spencer from the original 1846/7 Penny Dreadful, Sweeney Todd & the String of Pearls was a stunning new piece of site-specific promenade musical theatre. Drawing on elements of Victorian music hall, Vaudeville, gypsy folk, blues, among a myriad other influences, this production delights audiences young and old, from near and far.
