About DST
Durham Student Theatre is the union for drama at Durham University.
Durham's theatre scene is unlike that of virtually any other university in the country. On the one hand, Durham Student Theatre acts as an umbrella organisation for the 20-or-so theatre companies affiliated to us: we provide them with services such as managing and providing box-office staff for the university's Assembly Rooms Theatre, props, costumes, set, make-up, advice, not to mention a fantastic range of technical expertise and equipment. On the other hand, we're also a union for our 600 members: students who love the performing arts - be it treading the boards, rigging the lights, working backstage, directing the action, writing the story or simply enjoying the show. Our members get discounts off every production in Durham, trips to see productions across the North-East, workshops from industry professionals and regular updates on auditions and other opportunities to get involved here in Durham. Theatre Companies 2012/13
DST functions largely as an 'Umbrella Organization' for theatre. All the shows that go on in and around Durham are completely managed by one of our constituent theatre companies. Currently there are 34 active theatre companies which are part of DST.
