Why did the settlement fail? Source 3 |
|
Part of Lane's report to Raleigh. It describes a foiled attack on the settlement by Pemisapan, the local Amerindian chief. Taken from Richard Hakluyt, The Third and Last Volume of the Voyages, Navigations, Traffiques and Discoveries of the English Nation, 1600, pp.261-2. Click on either image to enlarge. |
Read the source carefully and then answer the questions. Q8. This is a very visual account of how Pemisapan planned to attack the settlers. Imagine you are a documentary maker and you want to use this incident in a film you are making about the Roanoke settlement. Use the table below to make a list of all the key features of the proposed attack and them use the other column to record how you would show it on film. The first line has been filled in as an example.
Q9. Make a list of all the reasons given in the sources for the failure of the settlement. If you have also looked at the other Case Study you may like to use that information as well.
